Erin Anderson, MSc
Erin completed both a M.Sc. and B.Sc. at the University of Guelph. She previously worked as a laboratory technician for Dr. Joseph Lam (UofG) for nine years and Dr. Robert Mullen (UofG) for two years before deciding to complete her Ph.D., where she currently holds a NSERC CGS-D award. Erin’s project aims to understanding the mechanisms behind the high-level antimicrobial resistance of P. aeruginosa biofilms. She aims to characterize several β-lactamases that are responsible for the resistance to penicillin antibiotics and, using a mass spectrometry approach, investigate the impact these enzymes have on biofilm antimicrobial resistance. In addition, Erin is studying what impact growth as a biofilm and in particular the presence of the β-lactamases, may have on the composition of the peptidoglycan layer in the Gram-negative cell wall. |
